Description
Trees are Important Project
The first phase of the project was a 5 day event at Merry Hill shopping centre aimed at children and their parents, looking at the importance of trees for wildlife, the environment and for timber. Activities included a drawing competition.
The second part of the project was with 2 local schools focusing on Saltwells Wood. The pupils paid a visit to the site and took part in a seed gathering activity. These were then planted in pots at school. Pupils also learnt about the history of the site and the current management of the woodland. School based workshops and activities included learning about the timber industry, sustainable forestry and how to make recycled paper.
This cluster group also aims to promote the Black Country Urban Forest.
Facilities include the Wolverhampton Environment Centre which contains woodland areas and walks.
Please contact Helen for further details of meetings and current projects.
