The firrs DVD: exploring the science and engineering of wood Centre for Timber Engineering, Napier University
The firrs DVD features over two hours worth of videos about the science and technology of wood and the people involved. It looks at a variety of subjects from tree growing to timber engineering including environmental issues, chemistry, physics and skills for work. To obtain a copy email firrs@napier.ac.uk

Investigating Wood - new resource
This new pack (part funded by FEI) is designed to explore the unique qualities of wood and the relationship between the properties of the wood, the tree that produced it and the uses to which it is put. In other words looking at the tree as a timber producing unit.
The unit is aimed at KS2 pupils and focuses mainly on developing concepts of
questioning, fair testing and evaluating results as well as investigating the
characteristics of wood as a material.
